International Women’s Day

March 8

International Women’s Day stemmed from strikes by women factory workers in the first decade of the twentieth century and developed into a yearly march to demand equal rights for women and to celebrate what feminism has achieved. Every year on or around March 8, women around the world commemorate this day. In Brisbane the march is usually held on the Saturday closest to March 8. The rally usually takes place in King George Square in the city with a march to Musgrave Park (this can vary depending on the organizing collective) for a festival.
