Sorry Day

Sorry day was first held on 26 May, 1998, exactly one year after the tabling in Federal Parliament of the report of the National Inquiry into the removal of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children from their families (the Bringing Them Home report). The report recommended that a Sorry Day be held to remember the stolen generations. While some Australians can’t bear to feel sorry for people who’ve endured incredible suffering I think Sorry Day is an important step towards healing the wounds inflicted through the colonisation of this land [Australia].
