Family in town and exciting news…

July 13, 2009

We had Paul’s mum and sister stay with us last week for one and two nights, respectively, which was very nice. Here’s a picture Paul took of me and his sister while we wandered around London.

Cornwall, Bath and silly films.

September 14, 2008

On Thursday Paul and I caught a train to Cornwall where we stayed with his parents in the fishing village Polperro. Paul’s Nanna lived there for years (and was married to the harbour master).

To Cornwall

September 9, 2008

A few days ago I blogged about Paul’s Grandma taking ill. Unfortunately she died on Friday, when Paul’s parents were still on the plane. Paul had to tell them when they called him from Singapore. 😦 It’s sad . I never met Paul’s Dad’s Mum but I heard stories from Paul’s Mum about her and I feel sad I never got to meet her. Paul and I will be going to Cornwall on Thursday for the funeral on Friday.

happy news and sad news

September 5, 2008

This week, the father of my brother-in-law Kini died. He was almost 75 and had been very healthy up until a day or two before he died. My sister Nicky and her husband Kini have gone to Tonga for the funeral. They are both very sad.

Paul’s grandmother, who lives in a nursing home in Cornwall, has taken ill this week and has pneumonia. Paul’s parents are heading over to the UK as soon as they can get a flight from Australia – actually, I think they are on a flight right now.

In good news, my friend, Richard’s brother, Peter’s wife, Sophie had a baby boy recently. Finn Tetsuya Scougall sounds to be doing well and he’s quite cute.

I'm an aunty, again!

April 7, 2008

My sister Jo had her third baby very early Monday morning (Australian time) and now has a little boy, Jesse Edwin. Jesse, who has two sisters, Annie and Lily, is the third grandson for my parents, and their ninth grandchild.

Mother and baby are both healthy and doing well.

Lily has finished eating.
This is my niece and god-daughter Lily. Isn’t she gorgeous? Aparently, just like me as a child, she talks non-stop – much to the annoyance of her older sister. Above is how she answers her mother when questioned if she’s finished her food.

My sister Jo is expecting a baby and is currently 28 weeks along. Wow.

Here are the two cherubs she already has, Annie and Lily, ready to go off to the ball.

Weekend activities

December 17, 2007

On Saturday I caught up with my friend Meryan; she was in town briefly. It was really nice to see her and we chatted about the state of our respective relationships, the need for visas to stay in countries, and what’s happening with our lives, etc. It was really nice.

That evening Paul and I saw the Golden Compass at the cinema. It was very good except they left the last scene from the book out of the film! I couldn’t believe it. I was sitting in the cinema saying, “It can’t end there! It doesn’t end there!” I can only guess that the second film, the Subtle Knife will begin with that scene!

It was still early evening when the film ended but we went home because it was FREEZING. It’s been quite cold lately.

Yesterday, I found the latest editions of the magazines Bust and Bitch: Feminist Response to Pop Culture in Borders in Islington. I’ve bought Bust a few times since being here but Bitch is very hard to find (they are both from the US). I even emailed them about getting hold of it in London but they weren’t much help! Lucy bought me a Bitch bag when she was in Portland earlier this year!

Today, Sunday, we had planned to go to the craft exhibition at the Victoria and Albert Museum, and then shopping, but we left the house so late we just went into town and shopped – we got some more thermals each from Uni Qlo (did I mention it’s been very cold lately?) and headphones for our mp3-players.

This morning I talked to my two sisters and heard all about my grandfather’s funeral which was on Friday. I’d been feeling bad about missing it so it was good to talk to them about it.

I was thinking we could start a facebook group for Gordon that all his friends on facebook could join. And we could add photos and everyone who is a member of the group could see the photos. It’s kinda funny though because Gordon wasn’t on Facebook and I’ve been wondering what he would think of us making a group about remembering him there of all places. And we have found some photos of Gordon which I might put on Flickr.

Tomorrow night is my work Christmas party. No doubt many people from work will go crazy with the free alcohol and they’ll be very hungover at work on Tuesday and we’ll have to listen to their stories about how drunk they got.

I’m also catching up with Madeleine and Claire this week. I haven’t seen them in a couple of years. Should be good.

Well, it’s ten to one on Sunday night so I have to get up in six hours for work. YIKES. Paul is listening to some hard-house/trance and dancing around our bedroom – lucky for him he is on holidays so can stay up as late as he wants.
